Gloss Epoxy

The Gloss Epoxy series is popular for mimi33's accessories. These accessories feature a delicate metal frame and glossy surface. They are produced by artisans at a factory that has the world's only processing technology that involves pouring epoxy resin inside the metal frame and then processing the bending.

This spacious place is the Gloss Epoxy factory. Gloss Epoxy is made with a special adhesive called epoxy resin. There are so many types of epoxy resin that not only can it be used to create a wide variety of colors, but it can also be used to create a variety of expressions such as transparent, translucent, opaque, and marbled.

However, not all epoxy resins can be used in products. If the wrong type is used, the plump texture and luster of the surface cannot be achieved, or it may crack or come off the frame. A lot of time and processes are required for research to find the right epoxy resin for the product from among the many available ones. We spoke to the Gloss Epoxy factory, which has been lovingly researching this epoxy resin for over 40 years.

-Why did you decide to put epoxy resin in the frame?

The first step was to apply epoxy resin to the metal base. But then a miracle happened! One day I accidentally spilled epoxy on the floor. But the next day the spilled epoxy was so good that I got the idea from there. The metal frame is almost the same as the engraving technique, but it took me about five years to formulate the technique to fit the frame.

-What is the most important thing in your research?

The most important thing in research is to have high curiosity and enthusiasm and to never give up. Our motivation is to bring our research to fruition and surprise and delight our customers with new technology. We are very happy when we get extra orders from stores or hear that we sold a lot of products. We are very happy when we receive homework (production requests) from mimi33. Because when I complete a product, I'm more than happy to hear people say "cute" and see their surprised faces. That's why I'm still researching new techniques.

mimi33's spoon-shaped earrings use a special technique that we have been working on since we made a sample of this technique five years ago, and recently we have been able to make it into a product. Even if you can create a sample, it is important to start from there. We need to get the shape right before we can mass-produce it, and only then will it be ready for production.

The Grosse Epoxy factory pursues new items and proposes them using advanced technology. During the interview, despite the background of many years of research, he never said backward-looking words like "it was hard work," but was always full of inquisitiveness, asking "what kind of things can we make?" and "I want to see the surprised faces of our customers," which gave me an opportunity to feel his pride as a processing craftsman.
